Hey, I’m Lauren. I’m a stay at home mom and recent Texas transplant living in a 1950s fixer-upper with my husband, 1.5 kids (baby boy due soon), and our menagerie of misbehaving animals.
I’m a passion-chaser, which has led me in a few unexpected directions–from a stint as a lawyer to a career as a band director to staying home and raising my kids, I’ve followed my heart all over the map. Literally–we’ve moved every year for the past decade. Amid the constant change, the idea of minimalism allowed me to let go and pursue my dreams without fear. I found that the more I embraced what was important in my life, both figurative and physical, the easier it was to release the stuff that was holding me down. Minimalism has drastically simplified my life and allowed me to focus on my values, which include taking care of my family the best way I can.
I’ve always enjoyed homemaking, though transitioning to full-time stay at home motherhood didn’t come easily to me. I’m the type of person who likes to stay busy and challenged, and though new motherhood provided plenty of overwhelm, I often felt like I wasn’t able to accomplish the important things I wanted to stay home to do. Over time, I’ve come to believe that much of homemaking and parenting is about doing the best we can with what we know, and giving ourselves a lot of grace in between.
- I believe that the most important thing we can do to care for our family is to live intentionally–to have a defined set of values, to strive toward mutual goals, and to simplify the clutter that distracts us from reaching them.
- I believe in real, nutritious food, prepared from scratch. I believe in using natural products that don’t harm our health or the environment, and in reducing our waste wherever possible.
- I believe in lifelong learning, acquiring new skills, and being self-sufficient.
- I believe that all of this must be done in a context where we care for ourselves by living slowly, enriching our lives with the experiences and people that bring us joy, and continually taking action to become our best self.
